Accommodation

Dear guest, it is our pleasure to welcome you to Stonetop Cottage

So named, because of the Stonetop range it looks out onto [‘Little Stonetop’, and ‘Great Stonetop’]

Perched on Bellstone hill, looking down onto the sweeping valley and up to the Stonetop rocky outcrops the cottage has a 180 degree panoramic view from the front lawn out onto the distant coastal shoreline of drop away cliffs and sea to the right.

One can see for miles on a clear day, and the vista is truly stunning [to the north in the distance the tiny airport can be seen as well – truly amazing to watch the occasional plane land and take off from the breath taking sheer cliffs that tower above the ocean]

The self catering large cottage offers ample space for a couple to stay in [ and share with a small child if wished ], with a main bedroom, en suite bathroom, lounge, dining room/ent hall, kitchen, guest toilet and a covered long verandah looking out to the view from the lawn.

See red circle on our St Helena map indicating where Bellstone is situated [Levelwood district].

Bellstone is so named, for the unique ringing stones of the area.

There is a massive boulder perched on the road into Bellstone, where you are invited to strike this rock which produces an amazing bell like tone.

The StoneTop mountain crop in the distance has many of these stones we discovered on our hikes there, and is worthy of exploration.....a geologist’s playground for sure!

Hikes abound in the immediate area, with the day long Sharks Valley’s venture for the adventurous in proximity too.

Close behind is the highest point on the island, the forested Diana’s Peak National Park – this enchanted hike is one of the prettiest on the island, and can often be shrouded in dense mist within a few hours on a sunny day.

Within 5 min distance is also a small local spaza shop, where the owner, Marcus, is friendly and quick to share a beer with travellers.

The cottage itself it can be used as a springboard to any place of interest due to the easy layout and economical size of the island – Jamestown, the capital, is on the other side of the island only about 20 min drive where you can go to pickup supplies, visit the museum, climb Jacob’s Ladder [if you feeling fit], eat at a local hangout, and for general all round shopping.

Best would be to hire a car, of which is possible on the island.

The cottage is fully furnished, with all basic amenities for self catering, has wi-fi, and there is a mobile operator in Jamestown which provides SIM cards/data etc.

However, due to the remoteness, internet on the island is obviously not optimal [speed/costs etc] – but this is precisely the getaway that St Helena provides.

In other words, there are no ugly cell towers, fast food or strip malls, highways or traffic jams, noise or light pollution, crime is virtually non-existent, and the people are friendly [locals work on St Helena ‘time’....once you live here, you will understand what that means].

This is what you visit St Helena for, to escape the freneticism of the modern world.

And places like this are becoming rare in this ever bustling crazy world.

So, come here to rest and restore.
